Meet Jake Schellenberg, a man with a passion for exploration and a love for Pitkin that runs deep. For over 15 years, Jake had been making annual dirtbike trips to this mountain town, drawn to its pristine trails and untouched wilderness. But it wasn’t until 2018, during a cross-country RV trip with his family, that the idea of putting down roots in Pitkin took hold.
The Schellenberg family had spent their summers traveling in their RV, from the towering skyscrapers of New York City to the tranquil shores of Key West, they experienced the vastness and diversity of the American landscape. Yet it was the rugged beauty of the West that captured their hearts.
Their search for the perfect mountain retreat spanned a search from Montana to Idaho, from Washington to Oregon, and finally to Utah. But it wasn’t until a chance detour through Pitkin for the family to see where Jake spent many years dirtbiking, that they knew they had found their home. Surrounded by towering peaks and nestled in a valley abundant with natural splendor, Pitkin spoke to their souls in a way no other place had.
That day, as they explored the winding trails and quaint streets of Pitkin, Jake’s wife Robin and their four children knew they had found their slice of paradise. “We want a house in Pitkin,” they declared, and with those words, their journey came full circle.
